Beyonce's publicist says the U.S. pop star has donated to charity the money she earned performing for the family of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
All monies paid to Beyonce for her performance at a private party at Nikki Beach St. Barts on New Year's Eve 2009, including the commissions paid to her booking agency, were donated to the earthquake relief efforts for Haiti over a year ago, her publicist told The Huffington Post. Once it became known that the third-party promoter was linked to the Gadhafi family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause.
The amount the singer earned for the gig was not disclosed.
The MTV.com reported the announcement regarding Beyonce's donation came shortly after singer Nelly Furtado said she also gave away to needy people the paycheck she picked up for staging a concert for the Gadhafis.
In 2007, I received 1million$ from the Gadhafi clan to perform a 45 min. show for guests at a hotel in Italy, MTV.com said Furtado wrote via Twitter Monday. I am going to donate the $.
The Rolling Stone magazine Monday reported the music industry had called upon stars including Beyonce, Usher, Mariah Carey and 50 Cent to return the money they were paid for concerts performed before Moammar Gadhafi's relatives.
