Regis Philbin To Emcee Pro Boxing Match At Purcell Pavilion On 16th September


Popular talk show host Regis Philbin will return to his alma mater on Friday, September 16th as the master of ceremonies for Fight Like a Champion, the first ever professional boxing event at Notre Dame, headlined by former Notre Dame Boxing Champion and current undefeated light heavyweight prospect Mike Lee.

The Legendary entertainer Regis Philbin has become a cultural icon in television broadcasting, with a sensational career that has spanned six decades. Currently in its 23rd season in national syndication, 'Live! With Regis and Kelly' airs each weekday morning across North America from New York City.

Presented by Top Rank Incorporated and The Mike Lee Foundation Fight Like a Champion takes place in the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center the night before the Fighting Irish football team hosts archrival Michigan State. Mike Lee has pledged that all profits from this unique event will be donated to the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation and the Robinson Community Learning Center in South Bend.

The 24-year-old Lee, sporting an undefeated record of 6-0-0 with four knockouts, is training diligently amidst the summer heat of Houston, Texas, with his team, head trainer Ronnie Shields, co-trainer Creed Fountain and strength and conditioning coach Brian Caldwell.

Tickets priced at $50, $30 and $15 General Admission for students, for Fight Like a Champion, a full evening of professional boxing, may be purchased through the Notre Dame Athletics Ticket Office by calling 574-631-7356 or through their website at www.und.com/tickets. Floor seating for $150 is also available by calling the Mike Lee Foundation at 630-400-6380. Doors will open on the night of the event at 8pm with the first bout starting at 9pm.

Mike Lee graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2009, earning a finance degree from the Mendoza School of Business while finishing at the top of his class.

While at the Notre Dame, Mike Lee was a three-time Bengal Bouts school boxing champion and also won the Chicago Golden Gloves in 2009.
