American folk legends Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie and other musicians marched 30 blocks to Columbus Circle last night following a performance at Symphony Space on the Upper West Side.
The 92-year-old Seeger led a crowd of hundreds in a rousing rendition of 'We Shall Overcome and 'This Little Light' in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement.
The performance recalled Pete Seeger’s earlier protest work fighting for civil and labor rights.
NPR reports that marchers held American flags and a large blue flag that said: 'Revolution Generation... Debt is Slavery'. Along the way, the crowd sang protest songs made popular or written by Seeger, Woody Guthrie, and others of the protest era.
